Concrete Contractor Galveston TX

Mouton Concrete Services pours, levels and repairs concrete on Galveston Island driveways and aprons, patios and pool decks, slabs, walkways, overlays, demolition and haul-off. Island concrete does not fail the way mainland concrete fails. Salt air and salt spray drive chlorides into the slab, chlorides reach the steel, the steel rusts and swells, and the concrete lifts off in sheets. Add sand-and-fill subgrade that moves when it gets wet, tide-influenced groundwater sitting close to the surface, and alley-access lots where a truck cannot simply back up to the job, and you get a set of problems that a crew from off the island usually prices wrong.

Concrete Driveway Installation

We build from the subgrade up. On the island that means proving what is actually under the slab before pricing it — beach sand, old shell, imported fill and buried debris all behave differently, and a slab is only as stable as the worst part of what it sits on.

Our sequence: excavate to depth, remove soft and organic pockets rather than compacting over them, bring in and compact a base that drains, set forms true to the garage, the apron and the street, chair the reinforcement off the ground so it sits in the middle of the slab where it has cover on both faces, place, finish, and saw-cut joints on spacing matched to the thickness.

That cover detail is the whole game on Galveston. Steel laid on the dirt and hooked up during the pour ends up near the bottom face with almost no concrete protecting it which is why so many island driveways are spalling in under fifteen years.

Standard on every drive we pour:

  • Removal and haul-off of the existing slab
  • Compacted, draining base built for sand and fill subgrade
  • Thickness matched to the load daily driver, dually, boat trailer, RV
  • Reinforcement set, chaired and tied for proper cover
  • Joints cut on correct spacing and correct timing
  • Broom, smooth, exposed aggregate or stamped finish
  • Apron tied cleanly to the street and to the garage lip
  • Site swept, alley and street left clear

Driveway Paving, Widening and Parking Pads

Galveston lots are narrow and a lot of them park off an alley. Where the driveway is simply too small for how the household lives a second vehicle, a boat, a golf cart, guests at a rental — we widen, extend to the gate, add a parking pad or pour a turnaround so nobody is backing blind into traffic. New concrete placed against old is doweled and jointed at the seam so the two slabs move independently, and the finish is matched so the addition does not read as a patch. Where access is tight we plan the pour route at the estimate pump, buggy or wheelbarrow and tell you which day the alley or the street frontage is affected.

Driveway and Concrete Repair

Repairs we actually carry out:

  • Crack sealing on tight, stable cracks, before salt water reaches the steel
  • Panel replacement saw-cut and repour only the failed section
  • Spall and edge repair where rusting reinforcement has blown the surface off
  • Apron rebuild where the street or alley approach has broken down
  • Trip-hazard grinding on lifted joints in walks and public frontage

If a repair only buys you a season, we say so and quote the replacement instead.

Concrete Leveling and Slab Lifting

When a slab has dropped but the concrete itself is still sound, lifting it is faster, cheaper and far less disruptive than replacing it. This is common on the island where fill has consolidated or where water has washed material out from under a slab during a storm or a flood event. We lift and re-support settled driveway panels, walkways, steps, patio slabs and pads, bring adjacent panels back into plane, and close the void underneath so the same settlement does not repeat. Lifting is the wrong answer when the slab is broken into pieces, badly spalled, or too thin to pick up in one piece we will tell you that on site rather than lift something that is going to fail anyway.

Concrete Resurfacing and Overlays

Where the slab is structurally fine but the top is worn, pitted, stained or scaled from salt exposure, an overlay gives you a new surface without a tear-out. We prepare the surface mechanically, repair the cracks and edges first, and place a bonded overlay broom, smooth, textured or stamped. Done in that order it lasts. Skipping the preparation and the crack repair is why most overlays people have seen elsewhere are peeling. An overlay is cosmetic-plus. It will not fix a slab that is moving, rocking or dropping, and we will not sell it to you as if it will.

Repair, Level, Overlay or Replace | How We Decide

Standing on your slab, this is the call we make:

Repair or seal when cracks are tight, both sides are level, and the damage is confined.

Level it when the concrete is sound and unbroken but a panel has dropped or is holding water.

Overlay it when the slab is stable and the problem is only the surface scaling, pitting, staining, worn finish.

Replace it when:

  • One side of a crack sits higher than the other the ground moved, not the concrete
  • Panels rock underfoot or under a tyre
  • Rust-driven spalling is widespread and the steel is exposed in multiple places
  • Cracking runs the length of the drive or webs across several panels
  • The slab is too thin for what parks on it
  • It has been patched repeatedly already

Water and salt come first in the diagnosis. On Galveston the cause is almost never the concrete mix it is water reaching the steel, or water washing out the base. Before we quote anything we look at where rain leaves the roof, where the yard falls, how close the slab sits to standing water after a hard rain, and whether the previous pour had any cover over the steel at all. Fixing that is the difference between a slab that lasts and one you pay for twice.

Patios, Pool Decks and Outdoor Slabs

Patios, pool surrounds, walkways, fire-pit and grill pads, outdoor kitchen slabs, shed and A/C pads, and stair and landing slabs under raised homes. Two things we do not skip: fall that carries water away from the structure and away from the pool coping, and a finish chosen for bare wet feet in full sun broom or textured around water, smooth under cover, exposed aggregate or stamped where the look matters. Slabs meeting the house or the pool shell are isolated so movement is not transferred into either. Under raised and elevated homes we also pour the ground-level parking slab, the stair footing pads and the storage-area floor, formed around existing piers.

Concrete Slabs and Foundation Flatwork

Slab-on-grade for garages, workshops, storage buildings, carports, additions, generator and equipment pads, and RV or boat pads sized to the actual rig. Load-bearing work is where base prep, steel and cover earn their keep. We handle layout and elevations, forming, vapour barrier where called for, reinforcement, pour, finish and cure, and we work to your builder’s framing schedule when there is one.

Concrete Demolition, Pool Demolition and Removal

Break-out and haul-off of driveways, patios, walkways, slabs, steps, curbs, old foundations and pool decks as stage one of a new pour or as a standalone clear-out.

Pool demolition and fill-in: we break down the shell, remove the decking and equipment pads, address the plumbing and drainage so the fill cannot become a bathtub, backfill in compacted lifts, and leave the area ready for grass or a new slab. Done badly this settles for years; the compaction schedule is the job.

On every demolition we saw-cut clean lines at the boundary instead of tearing into concrete that is staying, protect finishes and landscaping, load out as we go, and sweep the street and alley before leaving. No rubble pile.

Mike did a fabulous job. I had cracks in the bricks on both corners in the front of my house and he fixed them perfectly. You cannot tell anything was done. Colors match up and look great. He's even coming back by to check everything. I will definitely call again. He showed up when he said he would be here and charged a fair price.

Mike and his crew poured a driveway for us on Todville road in Seabrook. Mike is very friendly and easy to work with. The driveway was completed exactly as discussed and faster than originally thought. Mike went out of his way to get permit inspections done by both the city and county. Him and his crew do excellent work. The drive way was actually the second time we have used him. Mike did some concrete steps leading up to our house previously. Just like the driveway, completed to a 5 star standard. I highly recommend Mouton Concret Services

We called Mike to for a masonry inspection while trying to a purchase home. We were provided same-day, friendly service. Mike was upfront about the issue and didn't push for making repairs that weren't necessary. While we hope we don't need to use the company for repairs, they will be the first ones we contact!

I got a very fair bid from Mike, and they did exactly what we talked about. It was a very professionally done job and Mike stayed in contact throughout the entire process with no hidden costs.

I’m a repeat customer. They did my driveway several years ago & it’s still looking as good as the day they poured it. They did an excellent job with doing our RV driveway & went above & beyond helping us deal with getting our permits. Anyone needing concrete, construction, demolition work..I highly recommend them.

Faqs

Often, yes, if the concrete is unbroken and thick enough to pick up. We tell you on site which of lifting, overlay, panel replacement or full replacement is the honest answer.

It fixes the surface. It does not fix movement. If the slab is rocking or dropping, an overlay cracks in the same places within a season and we will not quote it.

Usually. Where the lot is narrow, the alley is tight or overhead lines are in the way, we plan pump or buggy access at the estimate and tell you what it means for the schedule and for your neighbours.

Some work does, some does not, and historic-district properties have extra requirements. We tell you which applies to your job at the estimate and handle it where it is required.

Yes. Demolition, loading and disposal are part of the job. Nothing is left on the property.

Cracked, sinking or worn-out concrete only gets more expensive the longer water sits under it.
